Domestic Study Away Programs
Washington, DC Internship Learning Semester
Join students from other universities who are living, learning, and interning in the nation’s capital during the Washington, DC Learning Semester. Butler sends students in the fall and spring to the nation’s capital, where they will complete internships and take courses that focus on the art and architecture of Washington and the “City as Text.” Students work a regular workday (often 9:00 AM–5:00 PM) Mondays through Thursdays.
Students earn Butler credits by taking classes on foreign policy and the history and public art of Washington while engaged in real-life internships with governmental offices and agencies.
Past Internships include: Congress, the White House, Israeli Embassy, and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office, as well as with organizations such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Smithsonian Museums, Amnesty International, Merrill Lynch, Make-A-Wish foundation, and C-SPAN.
NYC Internship Learning Semester
Join students from other universities who are living, learning, and interning in the Big Apple during the NYC Internship Learning Semester. Students earn Butler credits by taking classes on various topics while engaged in real-life internships.
Butler sends students in the fall semester, when they will complete internships and take courses that focus on the art and architecture of NYC, digital marketing and the “City as Text.” Students work a regular workday (often 9:00 AM–5:00 PM) Mondays through Fridays.
Butler in Los Angeles (LA)—Internship
Students in this program spend two months in Los Angeles interning and taking classes. The summer program, which is open to students in any major, offers courses in Communications and Performing Arts. This program partners with Elon University and Butler students will be taking classes with them, as well as expanding their network.
Classes are one day per week and students intern during the other days. Students live at the Eddy and the classes take place at the Second Home Hollywood co-working space.
Students are responsible for finding their own internship, but Butler will assist with resources.
Program Highlights:
- Regularly scheduled activities, such as film screenings, behind the scenes tours of productions in progress,
- Outdoor activities like hiking and trips to the beach,
- Mentoring interactions with alumni who are working and living in Los Angeles.
